Heroes of Newerth, a multiplayer online battle area game released in 2010, was inspired by Warcraft III: The Frozen Throne/Defense of the Ancients. It pits two teams, the Legion and the Hellbourne, against each other from their bases located on opposite corners of the map. The teams’ home bases are comprised of buildings, creep spawn points, towers, a hero spawning pool, and a central landmark. The objective of Heroes of Newerth is to demolish your opponent’s central landmark (World Tree for Legion, Sacrifical Shrine for Hellbourne) or force them to surrender. Players strategically build up their armies with heroes possessing unique skills to attack weaknesses of the opposing team.
