The Secret World, a massively multiplayer online role-playing game developed by Norwegian developers Funcom and creator Ragnar Tornquist, throws players into the present day world under attack from supernatural, often Lovecraftian entities. Characters assimilate into one of three powerful secret societies with different objectives to advance above the other three — vanquish, mitigate or exploit the occult attacks in Maine, Egypt, Transylvania, and quarantined Tokyo. Combat tends to be faster than other MMORPGs and more equipment based.
