XCom, a science fiction strategy game franchise that launched in 1994 and was rebooted in 2012, is based around the titular, clandestine, paramilitary international taskforce repelling alien invasions of Earth. The player must assess and engage the alien threat as the leader of this organization. XCom has spawned numerous sequels, two novels, clones, and several unofficial remakes.
