The Last of Us concerns Joel, who has been charged with safely transporting young Ellie across the devastation of a post-apocalyptic United States. Gameplay is from a third-person perspective. Firearms, improvised/customized/scavenged weapons, and stealth are tools in a player’s arsenal for escaping dangerous humans and those transformed into zombies by the mutated Cordyceps fungus. Another tool is “listen mode”, in which heightened senses enable users to pinpoint the location of enemies. Eight gamers are able to play cooperatively or competitively within The Last of Us’ online multiplayer edition.
