In Harvest Moon: A New Beginning, all clothes and hairstyles are wearable by all player-characters. Specifically this means men can wear women’s clothes, and vice versa. According to one review:
“This allows for a way of same sex relationships by having a male character model be dressed and styled as a girl and other then the wedding scene where you are forced to where attire for your birth assigned (game assigned?) sex and a few brief mentions of your characters gender, assigned sex ends up affecting only who you can woo and little else which is a plus for those of us who have long wanted same sex relationships in harvest moon games” (Traher, 2013).
The player needs to unlock the option to use the hairdress and the tailor before this is available to them, however. Moreover, although the game allows players to customize their own characters, regardless of your character’s skin tone or that of your spouse your offspring will be white.
