Carl/Quentin in Conker’s Bad Fur Day

In Conker’s Bad Fur Day, Carl/Quentin is encountered in the Bat’s Tower chapter. As a cog, Carl/Quentin is able to spin around a post and this mechanism is used to reference his “split personality”, he acts completely different depending on which face is active. Carl is vulgar, abrasive, and displays aggressively heterosexual machismo whereas Quentin is polite, refined, and implicitly coded as gay through his vocal style and mannerisms. After being knocked off the post by Conker’s efforts at spinning a large stone wheel, Carl/Quentin is beat up by the female cogs and then placed on Mr. Big Cog’s nose (which is a phallic reference, not to mention Mr. Big Cog sounds quite similar to Mr. Big *Cock* in Carl’s rough Scottish accent). Carl freaks out about this exclaiming “Not Mr. Big Cog! That’s me buggered.”, bugger being British slang for anal sex among other things. Carl then switches to Quentin who says “I don’t know what his problem is. I find it rather delicious.” in reference to being penetrated by Mr. Big Cog’s nose.
