Clannad is a visual novel that explores the story of protagonist Tomoya Okazaki as he navigates his senior year of high school. The visual novel follows Tomoya’s interactions and romantic endeavors with various other high schoolers as the player works towards the “true ending” in which Tomoya ends up with Nagisa Furukawa (the principal love interest). The visual novel shares a similar story to the anime of the same name, but the visual novel format allows the plot to meander based on the player’s choices. However, it is possible to trigger “bad endings”, one of which involves Tomoya deciding that he might be gay after all and Sunohara is a good match for him. This plot option is meant to be humorous due to Sunohara’s horrified reaction and lack of reciprocation for Tomoya’s romantic feelings.
