Although there are quite a few homosexual NPCs in Fallout: New Vegas (see list below), and the player-character is generally able to engage in same-sex flirtations, there are several mentions in the game of homosexuality being taboo or even illegal. Major Knight, for example, suggests that it is taboo for men to have “friendships” when stationed at the Mojave outpost. Veronica’s lover left because her parents wanted her to only be part of procreative relationships (presumably with men). Jimmy indicates that homosexuality is a capital offense in Caesar’s Legion, but also says: “Honestly, as long as men meet obligations and the child count, “friendships” are a sight more equal than the level of most Legion husbands and wives.” When a male PC with the Confirmed Bachelor perk tells Cass that he isn’t interested in her romantically, she’ll say: “Guess you’ve got a Legion outlook on things” (which can be seen in this video). She goes on to suggest that homosexuality is common in Caesar’s Legion. Veronica similarly says, “I hear the soldiers mount each other as much as they mount their women, so maybe they did keep a little something from the Empire.”
