Ocelot in Metal Gear Solid

Revolver Ocelot first appeared in 1998’s Metal Gear Solid. He also has a doppelganger, “Liquid Ocelot,” who is Ocelot possessed by Liquid Snake. Liquid Ocelot is introduced in Metal Gear Solid 2.

Revolver Ocelot’s sexuality has been much debated (see here, here, here, and here), with some asserting that he is in love with Big Boss, he flirts with him, or their relationship is homoerotic. Others see them as just two men who have a lot of mutual respect for each other (see this video for example).

There is also an Easter Egg (requiring the player to not press anything when Liquid Ocelot has Snake in a head lock) where Ocelot kisses Snake on the cheek. Allowing this to happens earns the player the “you’re pretty good” trophy for the game, as seen in the video below.

There is enough of a compelling case made by those asserting Ocelot is meant to be read as gay that we are leaving this page categorized as implicit, rather than suspected but unconfirmed. It is also telling that following the release of Metal Gear Solid V, a player modified the game to swap out the female character Quiet with Ocelot’s body, which adds more explicit queerness to his presentation and relationship with Snake.
